Training
Jeremy Carter is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the
most versatile and sensitive of his generation of British
pianists. Whilst studying at the Royal Academy of Music his
teachers included the late Gordon Green, Christopher Elton
and Alexander Kelly. He won all the Academy's major prizes
and scholarships and on leaving he was awarded the
Academy's highest accolade, the Recital Diploma, together
with the Chappell gold medal for outstanding performance.
He then studied privately with Benjamin Kaplan and with
Helena Costa in Austria as well as participating in
masterclasses with Tamas Vasary and Horszowski. Prizes at a
number of major international piano competitions followed.
Concert
Experience
Since his Wigmore Hall début he has performed in the
Purcell Room, the Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall, The
Maltings, Snape (with the 'cellist Mtislav Rostropovitch as
part of the Aldeburgh Festival) and on BBC radio and
television. He has performed Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1
with the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra under the baton of
Owain Arwel Hughes in the presence of the late Diana,
Princess of Wales.
In addition to frequent recitals in the UK he has performed
overseas in Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain Norway, Ireland,
Japan and Hong Kong. He has given highly successful
recitals to capacity audiences at London’s Purcell
Room and Wigmore Hall, in addition to a number of concert
tours, both in the UK and overseas.
Recordings
He has made a number of highly acclaimed CD recordings
including a release - by the French company CMC on the
Enteleky Classics label - featuring performances of the
Liszt B minor and the Brahms F minor sonatas. A CD of a
live recording of one of his Wigmore Hall recitals -
featuring sonatas by Beethoven, Scriabin, Lipkin and Chopin
– is available on the Claudio Records label.
Other
musical activities and concert news
Jeremy Carter is on the teaching staff of a number of
colleges in the UK, and has been a mentor on the Associated
Board of the Royal Schools of Music’s professional
development panel for five years. He joined the panel of
examiners for the Associated Board in 1997, examining at
both grade and diploma level in the UK and overseas in
Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan. He is a frequent visitor to
Hong Kong and Macao, where he gives masterclasses and
seminars.
Jeremy Carter also appeared recently at the prestigious
Macao Cultural Centre, both in recital and as the soloist
in Beethoven’s piano concerto number 4 in G major.
